A few days ago, a friend posted a picture on Facebook—with the caption, “They were beyond excited!”—that I want to share with you.
This picture (right) came from Autumn, a pediatric occupational therapist, working in the north west of Haiti (St. Louis du Nord and Port-de-Paix region) through North West Haiti Christian Mission. A while ago, she told me she wanted to use some of our new Resounding Hope solar radios in her own ministry with children with severe physical disabilities, and their families.
She explained:
The view of disabilities in Haiti is that a child with disabilities is worthless, cursed, possessed. And a parent with a disabled child is seen to have caused the problem, and often becomes an outcast as well.
It would be AWESOME to get each of my outreach families one of your solar-powered radios and make their homes become a central place in their communities to hear the Gospel preached and break the barriers in the community as well.
So, this summer, our Radio 4VEH team delivered a box of radios to Autumn. As part of her outreach with disabled children and their families, she visited a young girl named Nerlan.
Autumn said:
We were able to bless her family with a solar-powered Christian radio from Radio 4VEH. They were beyond excited and started cheering!
Though outcast because of disability, Nerlan’s family was “beyond excited” as they received a Resounding Hope radio, thanks to the support of friends like you.
Now Nerlan’s family will hear words of hope and encouragement through the daily Christian broadcasting of God’s love, and advice about life, family, community, health, farming, and more. They will be inspired as they hear, “Trust God. He is with you.”
I”m excited about the huge potential for these radios to be used by churches all over northern Haiti, and by missionaries and others like Autumn who are reaching out to so many people in need.
But we need your help to get many more radios to Haiti.
